The Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court has reissued reminder notices to the Chief Judicial Medical Officer, directing that the post-mortem examination report on the death of former SriLankan Airlines Chief Executive Officer Kapila Chandrasena be submitted to court without further delay, NewsFirst reported.
Officers of the Colombo Crimes Division told the court that several Government Analyst’s reports required to finalise the post-mortem report had already been forwarded to the Chief Judicial Medical Officer. However, investigators said only one Government Analyst’s report had so far been officially submitted, while several others remained outstanding.
Chandrasena served as chief executive of the national carrier and was previously a figure in the high-profile investigation into an alleged bribery scheme linked to an aircraft procurement deal. His death has become the subject of a separate inquiry, with the court seeking the autopsy findings to establish the circumstances.
The delays in compiling the required forensic and analytical reports have held up the investigation, prompting the court’s repeated directions for their submission.
The case has been scheduled to be called again on August 19, by which time the court has asked for the outstanding reports to be completed and filed.
