1. Sourcing

Every story links to the original reporting it is based on. We do not publish claims we cannot attribute. Where a story has been reported by more than one newsroom, we link all of them so readers can weigh the coverage themselves.

We maintain a defined list of verified newsrooms — Sri Lankan and international — whose reporting counts toward a story's credibility rating. Aggregators and social posts may be linked for context but never stand in for the newsroom that broke or reported a story.

2. Credibility badges

Each article carries a transparent indicator of how well-corroborated it is:

  • Multi-source — independently reported by 3 or more verified newsrooms.
  • Corroborated — confirmed by 2 verified newsrooms.
  • Verified source — carried by a single verified newsroom.
  • Stories not yet linked to a verified newsroom are flagged as unverified.

3. Freshness

LankaNewz covers current news, not history. We do not publish a story whose sources are more than 72 hours old, and an article's date always reflects the date of the reporting behind it — never simply "today". Automated checks in our publishing pipeline block stories whose sources point to a different year, a safeguard added after an incident where old wire stories were nearly republished as current news.

4. Original wording

We summarise and rewrite in our own words. We do not copy-paste from the newsrooms we cite. Coverage is typically 150–400 words, written to be understood at a glance.

5. Use of AI

LankaNewz uses automated tools to monitor newsrooms and draft summaries in English, working from the original reporting. Editorial rules — sourcing, freshness, attribution, and corrections — apply to every story regardless of how it was drafted. When we get something wrong, a human standard of accountability applies: we correct it in the open (see our Corrections policy).

6. Independence

LankaNewz is independent and carries no political affiliation. We link across Sinhala, Tamil, and English media so that a story's framing does not depend on a single outlet's perspective.
