Trinity College have won the 80th Bradby Shield with an emphatic 72-20 aggregate victory over arch-rivals Royal College, completing a historic unbeaten schools rugby season, NewsFirst and Ada Derana reported.
The two-legged encounter proved a comprehensive triumph for Trinity, who followed a first-leg win with a dominant second-leg performance to seal the shield by a 52-point aggregate margin. The result caps one of the most successful campaigns in the storied history of the fixture, first contested in 1945.
With the win, Trinity completed a treble in the schools game, having also claimed the Dialog Schools Rugby League title and the knockout President’s Trophy earlier in the season — an achievement rounded off by their success in the milestone 80th edition of the Bradby.
The Bradby Shield, contested between Trinity College, Kandy and Royal College, Colombo, is one of the most prestigious and keenly followed events on Sri Lanka’s schools sporting calendar, drawing large crowds and significant attention from old boys of both institutions.
Royal, who came into the fixture chasing a comeback, were unable to contain a Trinity side that had swept all before it during the season. The scale of the aggregate margin underscored the gulf between the two teams this year and confirmed Trinity’s status as the dominant force in schools rugby for 2026.
