Mainly dry weather is expected over most parts of Sri Lanka, with a few showers likely in the southwest, according to the latest forecast reported by Ada Derana.
A few showers will occur in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North-Western provinces and in the Galle and Matara districts, the forecast said. Mainly dry weather will prevail over the other areas of the island.
Fairly strong winds of about 30–40 kilometres per hour can be expected at times over the Northern and North-Central provinces and in the Hambantota, Trincomalee and Puttalam districts, forecasters said.
The generally dry conditions are consistent with the seasonal pattern over much of the country at this time of year, when the southwest monsoon delivers most of its rain to the southwestern quarter of the island while the north and east remain comparatively dry.
The Department of Meteorology advises the public and fishing communities to stay updated on marine and inland weather advisories, particularly in areas where gusty winds are forecast. Motorists were also urged to exercise caution during any brief but heavy showers in the southwest.
