Sanka Ratnayake, president of the Sri Lanka Weightlifting Federation, has been elected an executive board member of the Commonwealth Weightlifting Federation, Ada Derana reported.
He was elected at the CWF Electoral Congress held in Glasgow, Scotland, on July 31, and will be one of eight elected members of the federation’s executive board for a four-year term.
Ratnayake became president of the Sri Lanka Weightlifting Federation last year, at its 47th annual general meeting held at the National Institute of Sports Science. He had served as the body’s vice president in 2023 and 2024.
An old boy of Dharmaraja College, Kandy, he captained his school weightlifting team in 1996. He also holds a vice presidency of the South Asian Weightlifting Federation, a post he took up as he rose through the national federation.
The congress was held in the host city of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, where Sri Lanka has won a gold medal through javelin thrower Rumesh Tharanga and a silver through para discus thrower Palitha Bandara.
