Train services on the Main Line were running late on Wednesday morning after a body was discovered on the railway track near the Gampaha Railway Station, the Department of Railways said.
The body was found on the stretch between Gampaha and Daraluwa. The department said police had been informed and officers were attending to the matter.
Train operations along the route would continue with delays until the body was removed and the necessary investigations completed, railway officials said.
Neither the identity of the deceased nor the circumstances of the death had been established at the time of reporting, and police had not indicated whether the death was being treated as suspicious.
The Main Line is one of the country’s busiest rail corridors, carrying commuter traffic from Gampaha and the surrounding suburbs into Colombo during the morning peak. Disruptions on the section typically affect services well beyond the immediate location.
