The University Grants Commission has opened online registration for students selected for admission to state universities under the normal intake, based on the results of the 2025 G.C.E. Advanced Level examination.
Registration opened on Thursday (6) and will remain open until August 14, the commission said. Students who wish to appeal their university selection can submit appeals until August 21.
The UGC has advised all selected applicants to complete the registration process within the stipulated period to confirm their university admissions. Further information on registration, admission procedures and appeals is available on the commission’s official website.
The next step after the cut-off marks
The registration window follows the release of the Z-score cut-off marks on August 1, which set the minimum score required for each course of study at each university, broken down by administrative district.
It also keeps the commission to the timetable it set out in June, when Vice Chairman Prof. Wasantha Liyanage said selected students would be enrolled during the second, third and fourth weeks of August, with academic activities beginning in early September depending on the institution.
Some 92,043 candidates applied for state university places this cycle, of whom about 42,937 were expected to be selected — a ratio of roughly 47%, in line with recent years. Those projections were given ahead of the Z-score computation and have not been restated alongside this week’s announcement.
The UGC has been compressing the admissions calendar this year. A shorter gap between the release of Advanced Level results and the start of undergraduate study has been a long-standing student demand.
Applicants should work from the official UGC portal rather than secondary listings, and note that the appeals deadline falls a week after registration closes.
