Police have arrested four suspects over the theft of gold items worth Rs. 14.1 million from a house in Mount Lavinia.
The investigation was launched by officers of the Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau after a complaint about the burglary was lodged with the Mount Lavinia Police.
Two female suspects were arrested in the Dehiwala area. A male suspect and a further female suspect were taken into custody in the Hatton-Pathana area, accused of assisting in the commission of the crime.
What was recovered
Police said a large portion of the stolen gold was recovered, including ten gold chains, eight pairs of earrings, four pendants, two gold rings, a bangle and a bracelet. The items have been taken into police custody and produced at the Mount Lavinia Police Station.
The four suspects — women aged 28, 46 and 53, and a 28-year-old man — are residents of the Hatton-Pathana area.
Further investigations are being conducted by the Mount Lavinia Police.
