Raid Amazones, a women-only adventure challenge staged annually by French organisers, will return to Sri Lanka from 2 to 10 November 2026 — the island’s eighth time hosting the event.
This edition moves to the coastal district of Kalutara and will bring more than 250 international athletes, along with organisers, media and support teams, according to a media statement from the organisers.
Eight editions in two decades
Sri Lanka has hosted seven previous editions: in 2004, 2009, 2018, 2019, two separate stagings in 2022, and most recently in 2023.
Organisers singled out the 2019 edition as significant for the tourism sector, describing it as one of the first major international sports and adventure events held in the country after the end of the conflict. That race was staged across Passikuda, Kalkudah and Thoppigala in the east.
The event was founded in 2001 by French media personality and adventure specialist Alexandre Debanne, and combines endurance sport with cultural immersion. Organisers said previous host destinations have generated more than 300 international media features across television, print and digital platforms.
Kalutara as the setting
“The 2026 edition will introduce participants to the unique landscapes of Kalutara, where golden beaches, rivers, wetlands, lush forests, rubber plantations and vibrant communities create an ideal setting for this world-renowned adventure challenge,” the organisers said in their statement.
They added that alongside the competition, participants would take part in activities designed to test endurance, teamwork and determination while experiencing local traditions, cuisine and hospitality.
The race is being delivered through a partnership between Raid Amazones, SriLankan Airlines and Connaissance De Ceylan, with support from the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau. Turyaa Kalutara is the official accommodation partner.
