Sri Lanka’s total official foreign reserves stood at USD 6,591 million at the end of July, the Central Bank of Sri Lanka said in its latest reserves report.
That is an increase of USD 133 million over the June position of USD 6,458 million — a rise of just over 2 percent month on month. Ada Derana, reporting the Central Bank figures, put the increase at 2.017 percent.
Gold holdings rose by USD 1 million over the same period, from USD 191 million in June to USD 192 million in July.
The trend
The July increase follows a weaker June, when reserves declined as the country met foreign debt service payments.
Official reserves remain a closely watched indicator following Sri Lanka’s debt restructuring, both because they underpin the rupee and because the reserve position is reported against programme benchmarks. The Central Bank publishes the figure monthly as part of its external sector reporting.
Ada Derana was the only newsroom carrying the July reserves report at the time of writing.
