The Ministry of Health and Mass Media has called for applications from students seeking places on training courses in eight professions within Sri Lanka’s allied medical services.
Applications close on August 31, 2026.
The eight fields
Courses are on offer for dental technician, public health inspector, prosthetist and orthotist, entomology officer, school dental therapist, dental laboratory technician, drug compounder, and electrocardiography technician.
Who can apply
Eligibility is limited to candidates who passed the GCE Advanced Level examination in the Science or Mathematics streams between 2019 and 2023.
The ministry has not published, through this announcement, the number of places available in each field or the location of the training schools. Requirements differ between professions, and applicants are directed to the official notice for the specific qualifications attached to each course.
Context
Allied health professionals — the paramedical grades that sit alongside doctors and nurses — cover laboratory, dental, public health and diagnostic work across the state hospital network. Public health inspectors in particular carry the field workload for disease control, including the dengue control programme that has run through this year.
The intake follows a series of recruitment drives by the ministry to rebuild health sector staffing, including the appointment of 582 health care assistants in a second batch in July and the recruitment of 515 graduate nurses as Grade III officers in May, the first such nursing intake in five years.
