Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya, Galle and Matara districts today, the Department of Meteorology said.
Several spells of showers may also occur in the North Western Province during the day.
Showers or thundershowers are likely at a few places in the Uva Province and in the Batticaloa, Ampara and Mullaitivu districts after 2.00 p.m.
Advisory
The department urged the public to take adequate precautions to minimise damage from temporary localised strong winds and lightning during thundershowers.
Lightning strikes during afternoon and evening thunderstorms are a recurring cause of death and injury in Sri Lanka, and the Met Department routinely advises people to move indoors, avoid open ground and trees, and unplug electrical equipment when thunder is audible.
The bulletin did not include a severe weather warning or a marine advisory.
