Career diplomat Eric Meyer has been sworn in as the next United States Ambassador to Sri Lanka at a ceremony held at the US Department of State in Washington, DC.
Deputy Secretary of State Landau officiated the oath of office, formally beginning Meyer’s tenure ahead of his arrival at the diplomatic posting in Colombo.
Meyer is a career Senior Foreign Service Officer with extensive experience in South and Central Asian affairs. He most recently served as Senior Bureau Official for the State Department’s Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs, where he helped direct US regional policy and engagement.
The bureau publicly congratulated Meyer following the swearing-in, pointing to his regional experience and wishing him success in the post.
The US Embassy in Sri Lanka welcomed the appointment on behalf of its staff, saying it looked forward to working under Meyer’s leadership. Embassy officials reiterated a commitment to expanding bilateral collaboration and to deepening the partnership between the two countries while advancing shared interests and strategic priorities.
Ada Derana reported that the appointment comes as the United States and Sri Lanka continue to engage across a range of areas including economic cooperation, regional security, governance and development.
