Member of Parliament M.L.A.M. Hizbullah appeared before the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) on Thursday to record a statement.
Hizbullah was summoned by the commission in connection with an investigation into his assets, Ada Derana reported. The Daily Mirror said the inquiry concerns his assets and liabilities, and that he arrived at the commission’s premises after receiving a formal notice requiring him to appear before investigators and provide information relating to the matter.
Neither outlet reported further detail on the scope or origin of the investigation, and no allegation against the MP has been made public. Appearing before CIABOC to record a statement does not itself indicate any finding of wrongdoing.
The appearance is the second by a senior figure at the bribery commission on the same day. Former Deputy Secretary-General of Parliament Chaminda Kularatne also arrived at CIABOC on Thursday, in a separate and unrelated matter concerning a complaint he lodged against the Speaker.
CIABOC has been the venue for a steady sequence of high-profile appearances in recent months as the commission works through investigations into serving and former officials.
