A suspect has been arrested in the Anamaduwa Police Division over the alleged circulation of nude photographs and video footage of a woman via WhatsApp.
The arrest was made on Thursday morning (13) by officers of the Wariyapola Computer Crime Investigation Division, following a complaint the woman lodged with the unit, police said.
The arrested man is a 34-year-old resident of the Mampuriya area.
Investigation continuing
Further investigations into the incident are being conducted by the Wariyapola Computer Crime Investigation Division, the unit that handles computer-related offences reported in the North Western Province.
The non-consensual distribution of intimate images is prosecuted in Sri Lanka under the Computer Crimes Act and related provisions, and complaints of this kind are routinely referred to the police’s computer crime divisions rather than handled at station level.
Police have not released further details of the alleged offence, and no court date has been announced.
