The Colombo Stock Exchange closed higher on Friday, ending the week on an upward note, with the benchmark All Share Price Index gaining 0.49 percent.

The ASPI rose 105.01 points to 21,644.01. The more liquid S&P SL20 index climbed 0.80 percent, or 48.11 points, to 6,080.20 β€” extending the run that carried the index past the 6,000 mark earlier in the week.

Melstacorp led the positive contributors, rising 2.42 percent to 190.75 rupees. Banking counters also supported the index, with Sampath Bank up 1.63 percent at 140.00 rupees and Nations Trust Bank up 3.28 percent at 315.00 rupees. Dialog Axiata gained 1.95 percent to 47.40 rupees and Ceylon Tobacco Company rose 1.71 percent to 1,830.00 rupees.

On the downside, DFCC Bank fell 0.78 percent to 128.00 rupees, Richard Pieris and Company dropped 1.78 percent to 27.60 rupees, and Dipped Products declined 1.52 percent to 58.50 rupees.

Market turnover was 2.24 billion rupees, with retailing leading at 720.5 million rupees.

Ceylon Tobacco Company, Sri Lanka’s largest single contributor to tax revenue, reported a profit of 7.69 billion rupees for the quarter ended 30 June 2026, a 4.5 percent increase on the same period last year, EconomyNext reported.
