The Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau has arrested two men accused of aiding and abetting a shooting near Kandawala Junction in Ratmalana, with one of them found in possession of crystal methamphetamine.

The arrests were made on Wednesday (13) following an extensive investigation into the shooting, which took place within the Ratmalana Police Division on August 1.

What police allege

One suspect was arrested in Ratmalana on suspicion of aiding and abetting the crime, with 22 grams of “Ice” found in his possession, police said. The second was arrested in the Dehiwala area the same day.

Both men, aged 41 and 48, are residents of the Dehiwala area.

Investigations have revealed that the suspects allegedly transported firearms intended for use in the shooting and provided the shooter with facilities to hide afterwards, according to police.

A division under pressure

The Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau has made a series of arrests in the area in recent weeks. On Wednesday it also detained a close associate of the organised-crime figure known as ‘Alto Dharme’ with 10 grams of Ice — a separate case involving a different suspect and a different incident.

The bureau earlier investigated a grenade attack in Rathmalana in which four people were arrested.

Further investigations into the Kandawala Junction shooting are continuing.
