Marking of answer scripts for this year’s Grade 5 Scholarship Examination will begin on August 20, the Department of Examinations has announced.
Commissioner General of Examinations Indika Liyanage said the evaluation process is expected to be completed within a relatively short period, which would allow authorities to release the results in approximately one month.
The examination was held on August 9, with 294,089 students sitting the paper at centres across the country.
The Grade 5 Scholarship Examination is one of the most closely watched assessments in the Sri Lankan school calendar. Results determine placement at popular national schools and the award of state bursaries, and the examination draws intense preparation from candidates and parents alike.
This year’s cycle has attracted scrutiny beyond the results timetable. Education authorities have been examining complaints relating to examination administration, including a reported irregularity at a centre in Kegalle, while the government has separately signalled an intention to move the school system away from an exam-centred culture.
The Department of Examinations has not announced a specific release date for the results, saying only that the timetable depends on the pace of marking.
