Three people have been arrested in connection with an incident in Divulapitiya in which a bus and a main road were allegedly blocked before a man was threatened with a sword, Daily Mirror reported.
Police said the incident took place on August 11 and was subsequently circulated widely on social media.
Three in custody
Those arrested by Divulapitiya Police on August 13 are the driver of the car allegedly involved in the incident, a second man who was travelling in the same vehicle, and a woman.
Police have not released further details of the charges the three face, the circumstances that led to the confrontation, or whether anyone was injured.
Viral footage drives police action
The case follows a pattern seen repeatedly in recent months, in which footage of a roadside confrontation circulates on social media and prompts police to trace and arrest those involved days after the event itself.
Sri Lanka Police have made arrests on the same basis in several similar incidents this year, including a reckless bus overtaking case in Kalpitiya and, more recently, cases arising from viral clips of traffic stops that prompted senior officers to comment publicly on police conduct.
