Two people were injured when a pipe exploded during maintenance work at a fuel station on New Galle Road in Egodauyana, Moratuwa, on Saturday, Ada Derana reported.
Both men had been carrying out maintenance activities at the filling station at the time of the explosion. They were admitted to Panadura Hospital. Their condition has not been disclosed.
Fire crews called as precaution
Following reports of a potential fire risk at the site, the Moratuwa Fire Brigade dispatched two fire engines and took preventive measures, according to Ada Derana. No fire was reported to have broken out.
Egodauyana Police are conducting further investigations into the cause of the explosion.
Ada Derana did not identify the operator of the fuel station, and no assessment of damage to the premises has been released.
New Galle Road is the main coastal artery running south out of Colombo through Moratuwa, and the stretch through Egodauyana carries heavy traffic throughout the day.
