The General Manager of the National Housing Development Authority (NHDA) has been sent on compulsory leave with pay after the preliminary disclosure of several alleged serious acts of misconduct.
NHDA Chairman Aravinda Srinatha informed the General Manager of the decision in writing.
Barred from offices and overseas travel
Under the terms of the letter, the General Manager is prohibited from entering any NHDA office or worksite for the duration of the compulsory leave. He has also been instructed not to travel overseas without prior approval from the Chairman.
The decision follows the initial disclosure of several allegations of serious misconduct, including alleged violations of the Establishments Code and the NHDA’s own disciplinary regulations, Ada Derana reported.
Srinatha said appropriate action will be taken under the law if the allegations are established. Further inquiries are underway.
Ada Derana did not name the General Manager or set out the specific conduct alleged.
Background
The NHDA is the state agency responsible for housing development, and has been the subject of repeated scrutiny. Parliament’s Committee on Public Enterprises has previously examined alleged irregularities in housing schemes run between 2015 and 2019, while a number of stalled housing projects are due to be addressed under the 2027 budget.
