The Parliamentary Committee on High Posts has approved the appointment of a ministry secretary and three chairpersons to state institutions and statutory bodies.

The committee approved Dr. Anil Jasinghe as Secretary to the Ministry of Health and Mass Media.

It also cleared S.A.M. Peiris as Chairman of the Colombo Lotus Tower Management Company (Pvt) Ltd., H.M.P. Ratnayake as Chairman of Kurunegala Plantations Limited, and Dr. (Mrs.) W.M.V. Wanasinghe as Chairperson of the National Insurance Trust Fund.

Chaired by the Prime Minister

The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya.

Minister Ramalingam Chandrasekar and Members of Parliament Kumara Jayakody and Dayasiri Jayasekara, Attorney-at-Law, also took part.

The Committee on High Posts is the parliamentary body that vets nominations to senior state positions before they take effect. Its clearance is the established procedure for ministry secretaries and for the heads of state corporations and statutory boards.

Part of a run of senior appointments

The approvals come during an active period for senior state appointments. The Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority named Suranjith Wewita as its new chairman this week, filling the vacancy created when Buddhika Hewawasam resigned, and the National Transport Commission recently appointed its first women scheduler officers.

Ada Derana did not report an effective date for any of the four appointments cleared on Tuesday.
