The Ministry of Education, Higher Education and Vocational Education has issued the school term calendar for 2027, setting term dates, holidays and the timing of the year’s major examinations.
Ada Derana reported the calendar was released as Circular No. 31/2026. Hiru News said it applies to all government and government-approved private schools.
Three terms
According to Hiru News, the first term runs from Monday, January 4 to Friday, April 9, 2027, followed by a school holiday from April 10 to April 25.
The second term runs from Monday, April 26 to Friday, July 30, with the holiday period from July 31 to August 29. The third term begins on Monday, August 30 and continues to Friday, December 3, 2027.
The calendar provides for 197 school days across the year.
Grade 12 and 13 arrangements
New Grade 12 classes for 2027 are to begin on June 15, Hiru News reported. Grade 13’s third term must conclude on July 16, 2027, by which point schools are expected to have completed syllabus coverage and held term examinations.
Examination timing
The 2027 GCE Advanced Level examination is scheduled for August 2027, and the 2027 GCE Ordinary Level examination for December 2027.
Publishing the calendar this far ahead gives schools, examination candidates and families a fixed reference for planning the year, including the tuition and revision schedules that typically build around the A/L and O/L dates.
