Two more suspects have been arrested over the shooting death of a man on Huludagoda Road in Mount Lavinia, Ada Derana reported.

The Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau took the pair into custody on the night of August 19 in the Temples Road area, within the Mount Lavinia police division, acting on information received by investigators. They were subsequently handed over to the Mount Lavinia Police Station.

Police said the suspects, aged 20 and 23, are residents of the Mount Lavinia area. They are alleged to have aided and abetted the killing.

Both were produced before court and remanded until August 28.

The August 15 killing

The victim was shot on the night of August 15 by two people who arrived at the scene on a motorcycle, opened fire and fled. He was a 40-year-old resident of Ragama and died at hospital after the attack.

The Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau has been investigating since.

Earlier arrests and an alleged prior offence

Several people have now been arrested in connection with the case, including the main suspect and a woman, according to Ada Derana.

The report also states that one of the two suspects arrested this week is alleged to have aided and abetted an earlier shooting on Sylvester Road in Mount Lavinia on May 5, 2025. That claim comes from Ada Derana’s account of the police case and has not been separately confirmed.

The killing was one of a run of gun attacks reported in the Mount Lavinia, Dehiwala and Ratmalana areas this month, which police have linked to rivalry between organised crime groups.

Further investigations are being conducted by the Mount Lavinia Police. The allegations against those arrested have not been tested in court.
