Sri Lanka has recorded 93,635 dengue cases so far this year, the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU) said on Saturday.
Seventy-one people have died from dengue this year, the unit said β unchanged from the death toll reported a day earlier.
A total of 8,297 cases were reported in the first 22 days of August. Seventy-six Medical Officer of Health (MOH) divisions are currently classified as high risk for dengue.
The highest numbers of cases continue to come from the Gampaha, Colombo and Kandy districts. The public has been urged to keep their surroundings clean to help control the spread.
The month in context
August remains well below the yearβs peak. The 8,297 cases recorded in the first 22 days compare with 29,964 for the whole of July β the worst month of 2026 β and 21,533 in June. The month-to-date figure is up from the 8,043 cases reported over the first 20 days, an average of about 127 a day across August 21 and 22.
The cumulative caseload has risen from 93,381 on Friday, and passed 93,000 on Thursday.
The NDCU said on Friday that daily case numbers had fallen by 80% following work to eliminate mosquito breeding sites and fumigation programmes. Acting Director Dr. Kapila Kannangara attributed the reduction mainly to those measures. Health officials said earlier this month that daily cases had dropped from roughly 1,300 to between 350 and 400.
With 71 deaths against 93,635 infections, the case fatality rate stands at about 0.076%.
