A fire broke out at a house near Kinsey Junction in Borella on Thursday morning, the Fire Brigade Department said.
Two fire engines were deployed to extinguish the blaze, NewsFirst reported at around 7.30 a.m. The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
The report did not state whether anyone was injured, how many people were in the house at the time, or the extent of the damage. No other verified newsroom had filed on the incident at the time of writing.
Kinsey Junction sits on Kinsey Road in Borella, a dense residential and commercial pocket of central Colombo close to the National Hospital and Borella junction. The Colombo Municipal Council fire service covers the area.
Domestic fires have drawn closer scrutiny in Sri Lanka this year. Thirteen residents died in a June fire at an elders’ home in Anguruwatota, where 44 people were rescued and the facility’s director was later granted bail. The case prompted the government to move toward mandatory registration of elders’ homes. More recently, a fire tore through more than 100 acres of the Hurulu reserve near Habarana during the current dry spell.
