Three people have been arrested over the assault and killing of a man in Katana, in the Gampaha District, police said.
The arrests were made during an operation mounted on information received by the Negombo Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau, NewsFirst reported. The main suspect and two others accused of aiding and abetting the killing were taken into custody on August 28.
The suspects
The three were arrested at Daluwakotuwa, Fathima Watta and Kurana, and were subsequently handed over to the Katana Police.
They are aged 23, 47 and 49, and are residents of Kadirana, Ettukala and Kochchikade — all localities in the Negombo–Katana coastal belt north of Colombo, within a short distance of one another and of the places where the arrests were made.
What has not been reported
NewsFirst did not name the victim or the suspects, and did not give the date of the killing, the location within Katana where it occurred, or a motive. It did not report whether the three have been produced before a magistrate or remanded, and gave no court date.
The report also did not say how the age gap among the suspects — 23, 47 and 49 — relates to their alleged roles beyond identifying one as the main suspect and the other two as accessories.
Two days elapsed between the August 28 arrests and the police account being reported.
