A 43-year-old woman has been killed with an axe during a domestic dispute in the Lovers Leap area of Nuwara Eliya, and her husband has been arrested.
The victim, a resident of Vinayagapuram in Nuwara Eliya, was admitted to Nuwara Eliya Hospital on Saturday and died of her injuries, police said in an account reported by Ada Derana.
Investigators found that the woman’s husband allegedly carried out the attack with an axe in the course of a family dispute.
The suspect is in custody and Nuwara Eliya Police are continuing investigations.
Police have not released the names of the victim or the suspect, the time of the attack, or whether the couple had any history of reported domestic violence. No court date has been announced.
Lovers Leap is a residential area on the eastern edge of Nuwara Eliya town, below the waterfall of the same name on the slopes of Pidurutalagala.
