Balangoda Police are investigating the disappearance of three 17-year-old schoolgirls from the Ellarawa area of Pinnawala, Balangoda, after a complaint was lodged by their parents.
The three are students at a leading school in the Balangoda area, Ada Derana reported. According to their parents, the girls left home on Monday to attend a tuition class and have not returned since.
Police and the girls’ families have appealed to the public for any information on their whereabouts.
How to report information
Anyone with information is asked to contact Balangoda Police Station on 045-2287222.
The parents also circulated their own mobile numbers through Ada Derana’s report. LankaNewz has not republished those numbers; the police station line reaches the officers running the investigation and is the appropriate channel for information about missing minors.
What is not known
Police have not said whether the three left together or separately, whether they reached the tuition class, whether any of them has been in contact with family or friends since Monday, or whether foul play is suspected. No description of the girls has been released publicly, and their names have not been published — a normal precaution in cases involving minors.
Nor has any outlet reported whether CCTV from the route to the tuition class has been examined, or whether the case has been referred to the Children and Women’s Bureau.
Balangoda Police said further investigations are under way.
Context
