Former Sri Lanka Cricket president Shammi Silva was summoned before the police Illegal Assets Investigation Division on Wednesday for an ongoing inquiry, Hiru News reported.
Former SLC secretary Krishantha Kapuwatha was called before the same division.
Hiru reported that the summons comes several months after both officials stepped down from their positions, following the controversy over the administration and governance of Sri Lanka Cricket. Silva and the full SLC executive committee resigned at the end of April, closing a seven-year tenure, after which a government-appointed committee took over the running of the board.
The Illegal Assets Investigation Division is the police unit responsible for inquiries into assets suspected of having been acquired unlawfully. Hiru did not report what specific assets or transactions are under examination, whether either man has been named a suspect, or whether the inquiry is connected to the financial allegations that surrounded SLC before the resignations.
No other verified newsroom had carried the summons at the time of writing, and neither Silva nor Kapuwatha has publicly commented.
The board has since been run by a government-appointed committee, an arrangement that has itself drawn scrutiny from the International Cricket Council over the question of government involvement in cricket administration — the dispute that cost Sri Lanka the hosting rights to the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy.
