Sri Lanka Cricket has named 16-member squads for both the one-day and Twenty20 legs of this month’s white-ball tour of England, with Kusal Mendis captaining in both formats and Charith Asalanka named vice-captain across the two sides.
The appointment moves the white-ball deputy’s role to Asalanka, who had previously captained Sri Lanka in limited-overs cricket. Kamindu Mendis, who had held the vice-captaincy, remains in both squads as a player. ESPNcricinfo framed the selection around Asalanka’s return to the T20I side alongside the recall of Dasun Shanaka to the ODI squad.
The squad departs for England on 5 September, Hiru News reported. The tour runs to six limited-overs fixtures — three T20Is followed by three ODIs — spread across six venues between 15 and 27 September.
The ICC noted that Shanaka adds experience down the order, while Wanindu Hasaranga and Dunith Wellalage give the side all-round options in away conditions. Sri Lanka are seeking their first series win against England in 12 years.
For the T20I leg, Lahiru Udara and Tharindu Rathnayake come into the squad, with Nuwan Thushara and Binura Fernando providing additional pace-bowling cover.
