About Rs. 65 million in cash and gold jewellery has been stolen from a travel agency in Thalawathugoda by four men who arrived at the premises in a car, police said.
The robbery took place on the afternoon of Monday, September 1, according to preliminary investigations reported by Ada Derana. The four fled the scene after taking the cash and jewellery.
Thalangama Police have launched an investigation to identify and arrest the suspects.
What has not been reported
Ada Derana did not name the travel agency, say whether staff or customers were present at the time, or report whether anyone was injured. It also did not state whether the group was armed, how the sum came to be held on the premises, or whether any arrests have been made.
The report gave no indication of how the suspects gained entry, and police have not said publicly whether the agency was targeted because the money was known to be there. No description of the vehicle used was released.
