Applications for the re-scrutiny of answer scripts from the 2026 Grade 5 Scholarship Examination are being accepted from Monday, the Department of Examinations has announced.
Applications will be taken online only, from September 7 to September 21, 2026, Ada Derana reported.
Principals must file, not parents
An application cannot be submitted by a candidate’s family. The principal of the school the candidate attended must log in to the SCHOOL LOGIN section of the Department’s online examination portal using the username and password issued to that school, and submit the appeal from there, the Daily Mirror reported.
Hiru News named the portals to use: the Department of Examinations website at www.doenets.lk, or onlineexams.gov.lk/eservices, Hiru reported.
The notice was issued by Commissioner General of Examinations A.K.S. Indika Kumari Liyanage on September 7.
Grade 6 admissions also open
Ada Derana carried a second step the other two outlets did not: the Ministry of Education has announced that applications for admission to Grade 6, based on the 2026 Grade 5 Scholarship results, can also be submitted online through school principals.
The two processes run in parallel, and both route through the principal rather than the parent — which means families seeking a re-check have to work to the same 21 September window that governs their school-selection paperwork.
What the results showed
The 2026 results were released on September 2, and the examination is used both to award scholarships and to select students for admission to more sought-after schools. That dual function is why the appeal window matters: a small change in a re-checked mark can move a candidate across a district cut-off.
The Department has previously warned that the pressure around the examination carries risks for children, and the National Child Protection Authority issued a caution against publicly ranking or shaming candidates when the results came out.

None of the three outlets gives a fee for re-scrutiny, a timeframe for results of the re-check, or says whether marks can fall as well as rise on appeal. None gives a closing date for the Grade 6 admission applications.
