Sri Lankan driver Yevan David finished fourth in both races at the eighth round of the 2026 FIA Formula 3 Championship at Monza, his strongest weekend of the season, NewsFirst reported. The results lift the 19-year-old to 15th in the championship standings.
In Saturday’s Sprint Race the AIX Racing driver climbed from 17th on the grid to fourth, passing 13 cars. He took the position with a final-lap move at the last corner on Alessandro Giusti, having qualified only 10th in Group B.
“Honestly it was incredible,” David said. “I knew we had the pace and the potential, we just got a bit unlucky in qualifying but it happens.”
He told the championship’s media service, in an interview carried by the Daily Mirror, that he had been cautious on the opening lap and then gained places both from overtakes and from incidents ahead of him.
“It’s really nice to score points, I really like Monza. It’s a little bit of a home race for me. I’ve got some family here, I lived here for a while as well.”
He repeated the result in Sunday’s Feature Race, crossing the line fourth again.
Where it sits in his season
David became the first Sri Lankan to race in FIA Formula 3 this year, earning the seat after finishing runner-up in the 2025 Euroformula Open. He returned to the grid at Monaco in June following a break to sit his A-Level examinations.
His best single result remains the P2 he took in the Silverstone Sprint on July 4 — the first Formula 3 podium by a Sri Lankan driver. Monza is his best two-race weekend rather than his best individual finish; NewsFirst’s description of it as his strongest weekend of the season is accurate on that reading.
The championship goes to Madrid this weekend for the final round.
