US President Donald Trump has banned CNN, MS NOW and Politico from the White House, accusing the three outlets of repeatedly publishing what he called fake news, Daily Mirror reported.
He said the ban took effect immediately.
“Media Outlets shouldn’t be able to constantly write or report FICTION and LIES when they’re covering the President of the United States, the Trump Administration, or the United States of America,” Trump wrote, signing off as “President DONALD J. TRUMP.”
He added: “Other Fake News Media Outlets to follow.”
Trump referred to CNN as “Fake News CNN” and said MS NOW had recently changed its name from MSNBC because it lacked viewership and credibility. He accused Politico of receiving an $8 million subscription from the US government under former President Joe Biden, calling the payment illegal and ridiculous and alleging it amounted to corruption.
Which platform the post appeared on is reported differently. Daily Mirror says it was posted to Trump’s official X account; Hiru News says it was a post on Truth Social on Friday. The wording quoted is the same in both accounts.
A former press secretary: this was attempted before
Stephanie Grisham, who served as White House press secretary during Trump’s first administration, said she was “not surprised” by the ban, Hiru News reported.
Speaking to CNN anchor Brianna Keilar, Grisham said Trump had instructed her to find alternative locations off the White House grounds because he wanted the entire press corps removed — not individual journalists.
She said she stalled the order by repeatedly telling him there were complex legal issues to resolve, and that her tenure ended before the task was carried out.
Grisham said Trump now appears far more empowered, doing what he wants without constraint. Asked whether officials around him might restrain him, she said she had hoped figures such as Susie Wiles or Dan Scavino might play that role, but that he has surrounded himself with sycophants and lacks the guardrails present in his first term.

Neither outlet reports any response from CNN, MS NOW or Politico, from the White House Correspondents’ Association, or from the White House press office. Neither says how the ban would be enforced, whether it covers hard-pass credentials or only briefings and the grounds, or on what legal authority it rests.
The $8 million Politico figure is Trump’s own claim and is not independently verified in either report. No timeframe is given for it, and Politico is not quoted in response.
