Sri Lanka attracted 107,093 international visitors during the first three weeks of September, the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA) said, taking the country’s cumulative 2026 total to 1,642,215.
India remained the largest source market by a wide margin, accounting for 32,536 arrivals — roughly 30 percent of the period’s total on its own.
The United Kingdom was second with 7,906 visitors, followed by Australia with 7,393. China contributed 6,409 and Germany 5,440, completing the top five source markets.
Together the five largest markets accounted for just under 60,000 of the 107,093 arrivals recorded, or about 56 percent of the total, leaving the balance spread across all other origin countries.
Context
The figures cover only the first three weeks of the month, so the final September total will be higher once the closing days are counted. Crossing 100,000 arrivals before the month was complete keeps September on pace with the monthly run-rate Sri Lanka has sustained through much of 2026.
India’s dominance is a consistent feature of the recovery. Short flight times, visa facilitation and a steady year-round flow of leisure and religious travel have kept it ahead of every long-haul market since arrivals began rebuilding.
September falls between Sri Lanka’s two main tourist seasons, with the west and south coast peak season beginning in earnest from November.
