The Asian Games record in the women’s 100 metres, held by Sri Lanka’s Susanthika Jayasinghe for 24 years, has been broken at the 2026 Asian Games in Japan.
China’s Chen Yujie, 17, won the women’s 100m final in 11.06 seconds, NewsFirst reported. The mark she erased — 11.15 seconds — was set by Jayasinghe at the 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea.
The new record takes 0.09 seconds off a time that had stood since before the new champion was born.

Jayasinghe remains the most decorated track athlete Sri Lanka has produced. She won an Olympic medal in the 200 metres at Sydney 2000 — the country’s first Olympic medal in more than half a century — and her Busan double in 2002 marked the high point of Sri Lankan sprinting at continental level.
Her 100m Games record had outlasted six subsequent editions of the Asian Games. Its loss removes one of the longest-standing Sri Lankan entries in the continental record books.
