The number of people hit by Sri Lanka’s continuing spell of adverse weather has risen to 3,495, and the death toll to three, the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) said on Sunday.
Those affected belong to 943 families across 104 Divisional Secretariat divisions in 15 districts, Hiru News reported. The centre also recorded five people injured, and said missing cases had been reported, without giving a number.
Housing damage quantified for the first time
The DMC put housing damage at two houses completely destroyed and 448 partially damaged — the first damage-to-property count published since the wet weather set in. No repair or compensation figure has been announced.
How the count has moved
The national tally has climbed steadily over the past 48 hours. On Saturday the National Disaster Relief Services Centre put the impact at 2,865 people from 768 families across 90 divisions, with two dead, two injured and one missing.

The two counts come from different agencies, so the day-on-day movement should be read with care — the NDRSC and the DMC publish their own situation reports and do not always use the same cut-off time or the same inclusion criteria. The district total has held at 15 while the divisional count has widened by 14, indicating the spread is deepening within already-affected districts rather than reaching new ones.

The DMC does not name the 15 districts, give a district-level breakdown, or say where or how the third death occurred. No number is given for people still missing, and no updated safe-centre occupancy figure has been published — Saturday’s count was 77 people from 21 families in three centres.
