The Sri Lanka Navy has seized a consignment of narcotics and detained one man during a pre-dawn operation on the Jaffna coast, both the Daily Mirror and Hiru News reported on Sunday morning.
The operation was carried out in the Kusumanthurai coastal area of Madagal, Jaffna, in the early hours of the day. Naval personnel also seized a boat believed to have been used to move the consignment.

The raid was conducted by naval fleet units together with personnel attached to Sri Lanka Navy Ship (SLNS) Agbo, operating under the Northern Naval Command, the Daily Mirror reported. Hiru named SLNS Agbo but not the command.

Context
The northern maritime corridor is one of two routes Sri Lankan enforcement agencies identify as primary channels for narcotics entering the country. The Navy reported this week that it had seized drugs worth Rs. 55 billion so far this year, naming the Northern Sea and the Arabian Sea as the main smuggling routes, and police have made a run of large inland detections including more than 17 kg of heroin and ICE at Piliyandala.
