A 26-year-old man has been arrested in Grandpass with 31 grams and 350 milligrams of ICE, the street name for crystal methamphetamine, NewsFirst reported on Monday morning.

The arrest was made during a raid by officers of the Colombo District Crime Division, acting on information received. Police said the suspect is a resident of Colombo 14, the postal district that covers Grandpass itself.

The Colombo District Crime Division is continuing investigations.

The quantity is small by the standard of the seizures reported in recent weeks, and the case is a street-level detection rather than an interdiction of a consignment. For comparison, police recorded more than 17 kg of heroin and ICE at Piliyandala in a single raid last week, and the Navy seized 81 kg of heroin and ICE on the Jaffna coast on Sunday — a haul the Deputy Defence Minister valued at Rs. 1.5 billion.

Cases of this size are the routine end of an enforcement effort whose headline figures are set at the maritime border. The Navy has reported seizing drugs worth Rs. 55 billion so far this year, identifying the Northern Sea and the Arabian Sea as the primary smuggling corridors into the country.
