Justice and National Integration Minister Harshana Nanayakkara briefed Brazil’s newly appointed ambassador on Sri Lanka’s judicial digitisation programme and its wider legal reform agenda at a meeting in Colombo on Monday.
The talks at the Ministry of Justice and National Integration were with Jorge Geraldo Kadri, Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil to Sri Lanka, Newswire reported.
Replacing the paper case file
Nanayakkara, an attorney-at-law, outlined the nationwide programme to digitise the courts — a shift away from a system built around physical case files toward what the ministry describes as a modern, digitally enabled justice process. He also set out the government’s ongoing legal reforms.
Court digitisation has been a recurring theme of this ministry’s agenda, alongside measures aimed at clearing case backlogs and shortening the time taken to dispose of matters before the courts.
What Brazil raised
Kadri pressed the case for deepening a long-standing relationship, citing trade and export activity, good governance, and bilateral approaches to shared problems.
He is a career diplomat who joined Brazil’s foreign service in 1984 and was confirmed by the Brazilian Senate earlier this year as ambassador to both Sri Lanka and the Maldives, presenting his credentials in Colombo in August.
A note on the attribution
Newswire’s account described Kadri as the “newly appointed Ambassador of Sri Lanka to the Federative Republic of Brazil.” That is the wrong direction: Kadri is Brazil’s envoy to Sri Lanka, as the Brazilian Senate’s own record of his appointment confirms. LankaNewz has reported the meeting with the posting corrected.
