Palestine’s Minister of National Economy has agreed to lead a delegation of public and private sector representatives to Sri Lanka Expo 2027 in Colombo, after an invitation from Sri Lanka’s representative in Ramallah.
Farook Mohamed Fawzer, Sri Lanka’s Representative to the State of Palestine, made the invitation during a courtesy call on Minister Muhammad Al-Amur at the Ministry of National Economy’s headquarters in Ramallah, Lanka Business Online reported. Al-Amur welcomed it and said he was willing to lead a business delegation including representatives of Palestinian Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
The expo is the concrete item
Sri Lanka Expo 2027 is scheduled for 14 to 17 January 2027 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall in Colombo. Fawzer briefed the minister on what it offers Palestinian businesses — access to new markets, commercial partnerships and trade and investment links with Sri Lankan counterparts — and extended the invitation to chambers of commerce across Palestine.
That distinguishes this meeting from a general statement of goodwill. A ministerial commitment to lead a delegation to a specific trade fair on specific dates is an outcome that can be checked in January.
Fawzer also pointed to investment openings in Sri Lanka, including those emerging through Port City Colombo, and encouraged wider participation by the Palestinian private sector.
Two-way, at least in intent
The discussions were not confined to selling Sri Lanka as a destination. The two sides also talked about improving market access for Palestinian products in Sri Lanka, building private-sector networks and identifying further avenues to expand bilateral trade and investment.
Al-Amur noted the two countries’ ties over more than five decades of diplomatic relations.
What the release does not say
No trade figures appear in the account — neither the current value of Sri Lanka–Palestine trade nor any target for it. The release also does not give the date of the meeting, and does not say whether any Palestinian products are under consideration for specific market-access arrangements.
A note on identification. Lanka Business Online renders the minister’s name as Muhammad Al-Amur; it is transliterated elsewhere as Mohammad Alamour. Readers should also note that near-identically worded items about Sri Lanka and Palestine “reaffirming commitment” have appeared before — one circulated in September on a different meeting — so this report should be identified by its participants and the Expo 2027 invitation rather than by its headline. No other verified newsroom had filed on this meeting at the time of writing.
