Special Task Force officers have arrested a man carrying crystal methamphetamine and heroin worth more than Rs. 20 million in the Wellampitiya police area, NewsFirst reported.
Police seized 1 kilogram and 14 grams of “Ice” — crystal methamphetamine — and 505 grams of heroin from the suspect. He and the seized drugs were handed over to the Wellampitiya Police Station, where the investigation continues.
The Sinhala-language outlet TTV News, which filed on the arrest on Thursday morning with the same quantities, places it more precisely at Kuda Buthgamuwa, a locality within the Wellampitiya division, and gives the suspect’s age as 30. NewsFirst gives neither detail.
Which Wellampitiya case this is
Wellampitiya and the Kolonnawa area around it generate a steady run of narcotics arrests with similar-sounding headlines, and they are easy to confuse. This one is identified by the quantity pair — 1,014 grams of Ice and 505 grams of heroin — and by the Kuda Buthgamuwa location.
It is not the much larger September seizure in the same police division, when the Colombo Crimes Division arrested a suspect at Sedawatta with about 8kg of Ice and 4kg of heroin — a haul roughly twelve times this one by weight.
On the Rs. 20 million figure
The valuation is a police estimate of street value, as is standard in Sri Lankan narcotics reporting. Such figures are not independently audited and should be read as an indication of scale rather than a precise market price.
Not reported
Neither account names the suspect, says where he is from, or states whether he has been produced before a magistrate. Neither identifies which STF camp carried out the operation, nor whether the arrest is linked to any wider network. No charges have been specified.
TTV News is not among the newsrooms this desk counts as verified for credibility purposes; it is cited here for the location and the suspect’s age, which the primary newsroom report does not carry. No other verified outlet had filed on the arrest at the time of writing.
