Sirasa TV’s Children’s Day celebrations are under way at Viharamahadevi Park in Colombo and will continue throughout Saturday.
The event is being held under the theme “See the Future with Your Own Eyes — Explore the World of the Future”, NewsFirst reported.
The programme features entertainment items, children’s games and competitive events, with activities running across the day at the park.
Children’s Day in Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka marks its national Children’s Day on 1 October, in line with the date observed in several countries, rather than on the 20 November date the United Nations uses for World Children’s Day. Both the President and the Prime Minister issued messages for the occasion on 1 October, and the Dehiwala Zoo offered free entry to children under 12 to mark the day.
Saturday’s event at Viharamahadevi Park — the largest public park in central Colombo, opposite the Town Hall — falls two days after the official date, the first weekend available for a large family gathering.
Disclosure
Sirasa TV and NewsFirst are both part of the Capital Maharaja Organisation. The only report of this event available at the time of writing is therefore from a newsroom under the same ownership as the broadcaster staging it, and it should be read as the organiser’s own account rather than as independent coverage.
Not reported
NewsFirst does not give the start or finish time, say whether entry is free or ticketed, estimate attendance, name any performers or guests, or state whether the event is being broadcast. It does not say whether this is a recurring annual event or a one-off, and no organiser is quoted.
