Water supply to three areas near Katugastota will be cut for 48 hours from 9 a.m. on Tuesday (6 October) while essential maintenance is carried out at the Katugastota Water Purification Plant.

Supply is due to resume at 9 a.m. on 8 October, Hiru News reported.

Areas affected

The National Water Supply and Drainage Board said the interruption covers:

In a notice to the public, the board asked residents in those areas to store water ahead of the cut and to use what they have stored sparingly for the full two days.

A 48-hour outage is at the longer end of the board’s routine maintenance interruptions, most of which run overnight or for a single working day, and it spans two full days rather than one.

Not reported

The notice does not say what the maintenance work involves, whether bowser distribution will be arranged for the affected areas, or whether the plant serves other areas that will see reduced pressure rather than a full cut. Ada Derana also carried the announcement, but its site has been returning a CloudFront block for 11 consecutive days and the filing could not be retrieved for citation.
