The bribery case against former cabinet minister Kumara Jayakody will be taken up for further evidence on 3 November, Colombo High Court Judge Rashantha Godawela ordered on Monday.
The case was filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over alleged corruption charges, the Daily Mirror reported. The court directed that further evidence be led when the matter is called next month.
That is the extent of what Monday’s filing records: a named judge, a named prosecuting commission, and a date.
Not reported
The Daily Mirror’s report does not describe the charges, the amount or transaction alleged, the office Jayakody is said to have held when the alleged offence took place, the plea entered, how many witnesses have testified so far, or how far the trial has progressed. It does not say whether the defence sought the adjournment or the prosecution did.
We have not previously covered this case, so this report establishes the date rather than continuing a thread. The next listed hearing is 3 November 2026.
Ada Derana carried its own filing on Monday’s hearing, which would have made this a corroborated report, but its site has returned a CloudFront block for eleven consecutive days and could not be read or dated, so it is not cited. Earlier reporting on the case exists at Sunday Times and Island from September 2026 and before; those filings fall outside the seven-day window this desk requires for a cited source, so the background they carry is not reproduced here. A search summary offered specific charge details — a 2016 fertiliser-company procurement matter and a rupee figure — but we were unable to confirm them against a fetched, dated source, and they are therefore omitted.
