Eda Raa (එදා රෑ), the biographical film about the late Sri Lankan singer Milton Mallawarachchi, has broken several box-office records since its release, according to its producers, Hiru News reported.
The film opened on 18 September under the theme “One Voice, Million Hearts”. Its producers say it was released in the highest number of cinemas in Sri Lanka and in the highest number of countries of any Sri Lankan film.
The records claimed
The producers list the highest weekly collection, the highest collection over the first ten days, the most houseful shows, the most pre-bookings ahead of screening in Sri Lanka and overseas, and the most houseful shows generated through pre-bookings.
Every one of these is a producer claim. Hiru’s filing carries no box-office figures, no ticket counts and no independent verification of any of them, and Sri Lanka has no publicly published national box-office reporting against which they could be checked. They should be read as what the production company says about its own film.
Dr. Arosha Fernando, Chairman of One Line Production & Entertainment (Pvt) Ltd, said more records were expected over the course of the run.
How it was made
The project’s first discussion was held in September 2025 at the Imperial Monarch, followed by its Muhurath ceremony in January this year at the Nawaloka Banquet Hall. The film was completed and released locally and internationally within a year.
One Line Production & Entertainment is held by Fernando, Chamaka Manjula and Ranil Mallawarachchi, the singer’s eldest son, who are shareholders and directors. The singer’s daughter-in-law, Nirasha Mallawarachchi, is a co-producer.
The family’s involvement is worth noting when weighing the record claims: the company making them is part-owned by the subject’s son.
A Tamil and Hindi-language project next
Fernando, who Hiru says has produced 17 films over a 12-year career, is preparing his first Kollywood and Bollywood production in India — Orasatha, through a newly incorporated Indian company, Freyherr Movies India Pvt Ltd. The film is to feature Prabhu Deva, Sunny Leone and Yogi Babu. Fernando was due to travel to Chennai this week to begin preliminary work.
Not reported
The filing does not name the film’s director or lead cast, give any revenue, admissions or screen-count figure, say how many countries it opened in, or identify the previous record-holders it is said to have surpassed. It does not say how long the run is expected to continue, and carries no distributor, exhibitor or industry-body comment on the claims.
LankaNewz found no account of the records from a second verified newsroom, and this article rests on Hiru News alone.
