Twenty Sri Lankan companies took confirmed orders worth about $50,000 at the Hotel Asia Exhibition and International Culinary Challenge 2026 in the Maldives, with a further $150,000 under negotiation, the Export Development Board said in an account published by the Daily FT.

The exhibition ran from 28 to 30 September 2026 in Hulhumalé. The Sri Lanka Pavilion was organised by the EDB with the High Commission of Sri Lanka in the Maldives and the Sri Lanka Maldives Business Council.

What sold

Confirmed orders covered fruit purees, king coconut water, fruit beverages and hot beverages, including 3-in-1 milk tea premix. The orders still in negotiation are for cinnamon and fruit purees.

Two participating companies signed agreements with Maldivian importers.

The EDB said exhibitors met buyers, importers, distributors and hotel and resort operators, and used the event to promote Sri Lanka Expo 2027 and to engage the Maldives Business Chamber.

Why the Maldives

The Maldivian resort sector imports almost all of its consumables, and proximity lets Sri Lankan suppliers compete on freshness and short shipping times rather than scale. Food and beverage is a different pitch from the one Sri Lanka made at the island’s other big hospitality fair last month: at Food and Hospitality Asia Maldives 2026 in early September, a separate EDB delegation of ten SMEs showed lifestyle and giftware products. The two exhibitions are distinct events.

Not reported

The EDB does not name any of the 20 participating companies, identify the two that signed distributor agreements, or say what those agreements cover. It gives no figure for what the pavilion cost or who funded it, does not say how the exhibitors were selected, and offers no comment from any participating exporter. The $150,000 in negotiations is an EDB projection, not a concluded sale.
