A man was shot dead and his wife wounded in a shooting near a hotel on Nagoda Road in Kalutara on Friday morning, police said. The victim was the owner of a restaurant in the Nagoda area, NewsFirst reported.
The man died at the scene. His wife sustained injuries in the same attack, Hiru News reported.
How the attack was carried out
The shooting was carried out using a T-56 assault rifle. The gunman arrived at the scene on a motorcycle before opening fire, and fled immediately afterwards, the Daily Mirror reported.
Kalutara South Police are conducting further investigations.
Three newsrooms, one account
The three filings agree on every material point β the location on Nagoda Road, the weapon, the motorcycle, the death of the man at the scene and the injury to his wife. They differ only in emphasis: NewsFirst alone identifies the victim as a restaurant owner and places the shooting in the morning, while the Daily Mirror and Hiru carry the detail of the T-56 and the motorcycle approach.
Hiru describes the location as βnear a hotel,β NewsFirst as a restaurant in the Nagoda area. In Sri Lankan usage these commonly describe the same kind of premises, and no filing suggests two separate locations.
Not reported
None of the three newsrooms names the victim or his wife, gives their ages, or reports her condition beyond saying she was injured. None says whether she has been admitted to hospital or where.
No arrest has been reported and no suspect has been named or described. No filing offers a motive, says whether the victim was known to police, or links the attack to any earlier incident. None reports the recovery of the motorcycle or the weapon, or whether CCTV footage is being examined.
