Padukka Railway Station has won a merit award in the state sector category at the National Productivity Awards 2025/2026, and is reported to be the first railway station in Sri Lanka to receive a productivity award (Daily Mirror; Hiru News).
The awards are organised by the National Productivity Secretariat under the Ministry of Industry and Entrepreneurship Development. The station was selected from among several state institutions that entered the national-level competition.
The award certificate issued to the station records the recognition as a commendation in the public sector category.
A repeat contender
Padukka has been nominated for state awards on several previous occasions and has been recognised for its performance before, though this is the first time it has taken a productivity award.
Both newsrooms credit the result to the station’s staff together with the surrounding community, whose involvement they say has supported the day-to-day management and upkeep of the station. Padukka lies on the Kelani Valley line in the Colombo District, inland from Homagama.
Not reported
Neither report says what criteria the award was judged on, how many institutions competed, or which other bodies won in the same category. No award ceremony date or venue is given, and no station or Railways Department official is quoted. It is not stated what specific improvements at Padukka the judges recognised.
